Ph.D.:  Jacobs University Bremen, Germany (2015)

Postdoctoral: Jacobs University Bremen, Germany (2015-16)

Biography

I have my M.Sc and then M.Phil from Quaid-i-Azam University (2006-2010), Islamabad. In 2011, I became exchange research student at Jacobs University Bremen, Germany and was then awarded with a prestigious DAAD-PhD fellowship-2012 by German Science foundation. I completed my PhD degree from Jacobs University Bremen, Germany in 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Ulrich Kortz. I then continued as a Postdoctoral fellow in the same group. I worked on several industrial projects in the group of Prof. Ulrich Kortz during the PhD and Postdoctoral fellowship. In June 2018, I joined the Department of Chemistry, QAU, as Assistant Professor under TTS. During my academic career, I served as a member of organizing committees of international conferences. I was re-invited to Germany in 2019, and in 2024 as research fellow by DAAD. My research interests are in the field of inorganic synthesis and organometallic chemistry. I am particularly interested in the preparation, structural characterization, and applications of polyoxometalates. These are advanced functional materials with tremendous structural variety and interesting properties in different fields including catalysis, energy, environment, medicine, and materials science. To date, I have supervised 18 M. Phil, 3 PhD (1 as supervisor and 2 as co-supervisor) students. Two postdoctoral fellows worked in my research group under HEC project (2022-23). Currently 5 PhD and 3 M. Phil students are enrolled under my supervision. I have won several research grants (5 as PI and 4 as co-PI) from national organizations (HEC, PSF and PAS) with the total worth of 30 million PKR. Until now, I have published about 80 research papers in highly ranked international journals including American Chemical Society (ACS), Royal Chemical Society (RSC), Wiley, and Elsevier journals. Moreover, I am an inventor (along with others from the group of Prof. Kortz) of US, EP (European), RU (Russian), and CN (Chinese) patents for our invention that relates to the use of heteropolyoxometalates for disinfecting purposes and in antimicrobial surfaces, paints or coatings and intermediates for their preparation. I have been recently awarded with Gold Medal under the age of 40 by the Chemical Society of Pakistan. Based on exceptional performance I have been recently promoted as Early Tenured Associate Professor. I am a life-member of Chemical Society of Pakistan and member of Pakistan Academy of Sciences.
